LinkedIn today announced it agreed to acquire SlideShare, a leading content sharing community for $118 million. Not quite the same as Instagram’s $1B acquisition by Facebook, but not everybody can turn color photos into black and white. Slideshare is the best way to add a Powerpoint presentation to LinkedIn.
The move makes strategic sense as the leading social network for professional connections continues to partner with and create leading business content applications. The merger allows people to combine their professional profile information with business insights while pushing their thought leadership throughout their network. Slide share was an original member of past application directory. We think embedding Slideshare presentations makes a great professional profile.
Founded in October 2006, SlideShare helps professionals discover people through content, and content through people. SlideShare users have uploaded more than nine million presentations, and according to comScore, in March SlideShare had nearly 29 million unique visitors, ranking it among the most heavily trafficked sites for digital presentations. Nearly 7.4 million presentations hosted by SlideShare are embedded across more than 1.4 million unique domains.
